current economic recession would persist till mid 2017- Lawmaker.

Rep. Jonathan Gaza (PDP-Kokona/Keffi/Karu) in Nasarawa State, has advised Nigerians to ensure prudent management of resources and avoid extravagant expenses so as to save for rainy days.

Gaza (PDP) gave the advice on Monday while addressing his constituents who paid Christmas homage to the Esu Karu, Mr Luka Baba, in his palace in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The lawmaker warned that the current economic recession would persist till mid-2017.

He urged Christians to use the opportunity of the season to reflect on the reason for the birth of Christ as well as developments in the country and keep hope alive.
“As we celebrate, we must continue to extend hands of love and live as one big family irrespective of our background, and trust God for a better tomorrow and a greater country.

“The Christmas season commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ who is the symbol of Christianity and there is no better way to celebrate the season than to demonstrate love, humility and generosity towards one another.

“My advice to you is that, we heard what other stakeholders had said on the need for us to save for rainy days considering the challenges facing the country, there are definitively going to be difficult time ahead as a result of the recession.

“With all of our support and prayers, the recession will be overcome but from now to the next six months, June/July, there will be hardship.

“So, we must be very careful on how we spend our money and we must ensure prudent management of our resources.

“The analysis of the recession to last for the next six months was based on the view of economists and I believe that the recession will be overcome because Nigerians are people that are resolute,” he said.

He promised to initiate more people oriented projects in his constituency in order to improve the standard of living of his constituents and Nigerians at large.

Earlier, the Esu Karu congratulated his subjects and Nigerians at Christmas and wished them a prosperous New Year.

The traditional ruler enjoined Christians to embrace the virtues of love, charity and peaceful co-existence that Christmas celebrations symbolised.

Baba also urged his subjects and Nigerians to continue to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation for the overall development of the country. (NAN)
