Buhari instal digital broadcasting in Abuja today

The nation’s march towards digital broadcasting will reach an important milestone today (Thursday) as President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurates the roll-out of digital broadcasting in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission, Dr. Is’haq Kawu, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday.
The first digital switch-over was recorded in Nigeria on April 30, when the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, inaugurated the analogue switch-off in Jos, Plateau State.
The inauguration of the digital terrestrial broadcasting in Abuja is planned to be followed by some cities in the southern parts of the country, including Lagos.
Kawu said, “On Thursday, the 22nd of December, 2016, the President and Commander of the Armed Forces of Nigeria will inaugurate the roll-out of the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in the FCT.
“The people of Jos have continued to enjoy digital TV services, for which I am sure they are grateful to the Federal Government. It is our belief that the transition has brought about renewed entertainment, education and potential economic opportunities to the people of the Plateau.
“As we move to Abuja, we are committed to increase the status. We shall be offering 30 television channels in Abuja. These will cover entertainment, sports, news, movies etc.”
